From the Principal
As we enter the latter half of the term, our focus shifts to an important value here at Waverley: Growth. It’s all about continuous improvement—whether that’s learning new things, being better friends, or showing kindness and respect.
Why is Growth so Important?
Growth makes us stronger learners and helps us overcome challenges, both in and out of the classroom. It’s the idea that by putting in effort and not giving up, we can all improve, step by step.
At Waverley, we encourage students to show growth by:
- Learning new skills: Whether it’s tackling a more difficult book to read or learning a new game at recess, trying new things helps us grow.
- Asking for help: It’s okay to need help. Seeking advice or feedback from others is a key part of learning.
- Learning from mistakes: Mistakes are valuable lessons. Every misstep brings us closer to understanding and success.
- Taking on challenges: Even when something seems hard, taking that first step is the key to unlocking new achievements.
Growth doesn’t happen overnight, and everyone progresses at their own pace. Sometimes it’s slow and steady, like learning to ride a bike. Other times, growth happens quickly, like finally understanding a tricky math problem. The important thing is to keep improving each day, no matter how small the steps.
At Waverley, we believe that everyone has the potential to grow. It’s not about being the best; it’s about always trying and believing in our ability to improve.
Let’s embrace this mindset together as we support our students in their journey toward growth, learning, and success.
Families Satisfaction Survey 2024
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what schools do well and where they may improve.
We would be so grateful if families could complete our online survey about Waverley Primary School. Your feedback is very important and helps form school planning and decision-making.
The survey is open until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this https://nam.dcv.ms/bIR8VSw4Bm, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/bIR8VSw4Bm The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact us if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.

Grade 2/3 LiFT Reading Afternoon
During the Grade 2/3 LiFT reading afternoon, students gathered with their favourite books, eager to share these with their families’ members. Parents who attended contributed by reading alongside the students and offering support. A special thank you to Toni for providing the fruit platter that was available to everyone. The afternoon was a productive session, combining learning with a sense of community, reinforcing the importance of reading and making everyone feel involved.
Thank you, families, for supporting your child in these sessions.
Don’t forget the next lot of reading afternoons commence:
- Thursday 5th Sept with P/1 Ennis.
- Thursday 12th Sept with 1/2 Meallin.

Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term at Waverley Primary School!
Jump Rope for Heart is the Heart Foundation’s primary school skipping challenge that helps kids move more, have fun, and raise funds for lifesaving research and programs.
Students will be skipping throughout the term during HPE lessons and student leaders will run skipping lessons and challenges during recess each day.
We will hold our school Jump Off Day on the last day of term 3. This will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills. Students will be encouraged to wear red and donate a gold coin. All money raised will go straight to the Heart Foundation.
Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program. More information will be sent home soon so stay tuned!

Please contact the school office and request the code to take advantage of this wonderful offer.
Safe School Zone Parking
We need your help to keep all our students safe, especially in the P/1 class.
Please do not park on the grass nature strip outside Prep 1. This is not permitted and is very dangerous. Parking there blocks the view for drivers and makes it harder to see children crossing the road. Always use the designated parking areas to keep everyone safe.
The Tasmanian Road Rules prohibit parking on a nature strip. Vehicles parked on a nature strip may be fined by City of Launceston officers or Tasmania Police if they are determined to be breaking the Road Rules.
Remember, our school zone speed limit is 40km/h during busy times. Please slow down, stay alert, and watch for children walking near cars, crossing roads, or getting in and out of vehicles. Children can be unpredictable, so staying focused is essential.
Talk to your children about road safety. Remind them to hold hands when crossing, get out of the car on the kerb side, and follow traffic signals. These habits help keep everyone safe.
Thank you for helping us make Waverley Primary School a safe place for all our students. Let's work together to ensure safe drop-off and pick-up times for everyone.
The City of Launceston has shared resources for Parking Rules (see below) and Safe School Zone Parking, which can be viewed here: Safe School Zone Parking. The City of Launceston will also be conducting patrols of the area to encourage safe and legal parking.
