Class Structures and Placements
We are pleased to announce a special event for our students as we wrap up the school year! On Tuesday, December 17th, from 2:30 to 3:00pm, students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers for next year. This is a special moment for your child to share something about themselves, fostering reassurance and hope for the exciting year ahead. If you have any questions, please contact a member of senior staff. We appreciate your continued support.
Reports
School reports went home with students on Monday 9th December. The report describes your child’s learning achievement on a 9-point visual scale for students in Prep to Year 6. Students receive a 5-point scale for Health and Physical Education and Visual Arts. The 9-point and 5-point scales shows where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
Students receive a rating about their work habits and application to learning demonstrated in Digital Technologies, Health and Physical Education, Music and Visual Arts based on the SHINE values.
If your child is assessed against their Individual Learning Plan, they will be assessed against their personal goals that have been set by the classroom teacher.
If you would like to discuss your child/ren’s report further, please phone the office to arrange a time to speak with the classroom teacher.
Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT)
Recently our 2024 PAT (Progressive Achievement Testing) results were made available. All state schools are required to undertake these tests. These tests provide individual teachers, collaborative teams and school leadership, with valuable data regarding student achievement and growth in reading and mathematics. We had a 94% participation rate and some very encouraging results. We consider this dataset along with other information we have at our disposal. While there is a lot of data to examine, I would particularly like to celebrate overall our high reading growth has doubled since last year.
- 23 students Prep- Year 6 achieved results that were in the above/well above reading achievement.
- 8/17 = 44% of Year 3's had above and well above growth in reading.
- 7/13 = 54% Year 6's had above and well above growth in reading.

End of Year Events
Whole School Assembly: This morning, Wednesday 11th December we hosted our final Whole School Assembly for 2024. In this assembly we reflected on the 2024 school year and appreciating students who have been recognised for; Academic achievement, demonstration of school values, sporting achievement values and contribution to our school community.
Due to restrictions with our seating capacity, this assembly was an invitation only event for the families of students receiving awards.
Year 6 Farewell Assembly: On Thursday 19th December we will farewell our Year 6 students. We invite families of our Year 6’s to attend.
We also have the Year 6 Celebration Dinner on Wednesday 11th December at Apricus. I am sure that our Year 6 students are looking forward to their end of year events and while this may bring mixed emotions for some, it is still important that our students adhere to the normal routines and expectations. While completing Year 6 is a significant point of transition, it is not the end of their journey in education.
We look forward to sharing these events with our school community and celebrating our highly successful school year!
If you have any queries, please contact me or any other member of staff at school.
Kind regards,
Katie Wightman

Children's University Graduation
On Friday, 29th November, students from Waverley Primary School attended their Children’s University graduation ceremony at the University of Tasmania.
Children’s University is a global program that encourages children to try new activities and develop their love of learning. Students are given a passport and track their learning over the year. Once they have completed 30 hours, they are able to participate in the graduation ceremony.
This year learning activities have involved visiting the museum, studying wildlife, arts and crafts, and reviewing books and movies. The graduation was a chance to celebrate and recognise the dedication of our students who have worked hard across the year.
“When I was called onto the stage to graduate, I felt proud of my learning that I have done this year because I knew that I had put in a lot of effort to complete work each week and that had meant I was able to graduate. I loved how we were allowed to keep the yellow tassel from our special hats. The hats are called a mortarboard.” – Melodie
“My favourite task this year was the ice cream making activity. It was very cool to make and tasted yummy and it tasted better than the ice cream from the shop.” – Lucas
“The most important lesson I have learnt about being a learner has been to try and try again until you understand something or get better at it.” – Jayda-Rose
In 2025, students from Grade 3-6 will be able to join this program. Thank you to the students for their hard work, their families for supporting this program, and to Claire and Justin at Children’s University for organising these events.
