Thank you to Ms. Harmey, Advanced Skills Teacher, for coordinating the assembly, and to the other staff and students who helped make it happen. The final result often comes from a lot of planning and preparation behind the scenes.

Important Reminder and Update – Safeguarding
Adults in our school grounds before 2:50pm MUST sign in at the School Office.
If an adult needs to be on school grounds before the end of the school day, they must sign in at the office. This helps us monitor who is in the grounds and ensures the safety and well-being of our students. The update was sent via text message Thursday 20th March, 2025.
During the school day - If you need to collect your child from school please report to the School Office. We will deliver your child to you.
If you need to collect your child early, we ask that you report to the School Office. Our staff will then bring your child to the office, ensuring a smooth and safe handover. This is part of our effort to maintain a secure environment for all students. This information was also shared through the text message on Thursday 20th March, 2025.
If you have any further questions, please contact the office or speak with the Assistant Principal and Safeguarding Lead Mrs Price or Principal Mrs Wightman. We can provide any additional details or help with any concerns you might have. We're committed to making these changes as smooth as possible for everyone.
Waverley Primary School Respectful School Volunteer and Visitor Behaviour Policy
At our school, we value the contributions of volunteers and visitors, including parents, carers, and community members, in supporting student learning and creating a positive environment. This policy outlines the expectations for respectful behaviour and the rights and responsibilities of volunteers and visitors. It also provides guidance on responding to unacceptable behaviour to ensure a safe and supportive school community. Our Policy is available on the School Website here:
Meet the teacher
We were pleased to see families meeting their child's teacher last Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th at our Meet the Teacher event. At Waverley we are committed to ensuring our students are known, safe, well and learning and we do that in partnership with parents and guardians. Interim reports were sent home Friday 7th March providing a good starting point for discussions. These reports highlight your child's learning behaviours.
If you wish to discuss your child's learning outside the parent teacher schedule, please do arrange a meeting directly with your child’s teacher or through the school office.
Kinder Health Check
Every Kindergarten child at Waverley Primary School can have a Kinder Health Check (KHC) with our School Health Nurse Ms Louise Webster. The health check includes vision and hearing screening, height and weight measurements and an oral health check.
The Kinder Health Checks commenced Wednesday 19th March and will take place each week until the end of term.
2025 NAPLAN testing
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students who completed their NAPLAN assessments commencing Monday 12th March. Individual students’ performance in NAPLAN is shown on a national achievement scale for each test. The performance of individual students can be compared to the average performance of all students in Australia. Parents will receive their child’s individual report later this year.
Thank you for supporting your child’s participation in the important national initiative. Thank you Mr Millwood for coordinating the testing with support capably from Mrs Colgrave, Mrs Beven and Mrs Brown.
School Association Easter Raffle
This week your child has been given a booklet of raffle tickets to sell. Tickets are $1ea. There are 10 prizes to win. All money raised will go toward a new sandpit for our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students. The raffle will be drawn Monday 14th April, 2025. We will record the raffle draw and share the results via our school Facebook Page and by direct text message to winners.

Every School Day Matters – Attendance
There are lots of things you can do to set your child up for success:
Make sure your child goes to school, every day
Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow, and connect with their mates and teachers. It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most.
Get them excited for school
If you show a positive attitude and excitement towards school, your child will pick up on that.
The most common thing we hear from students, of all ages, is that school is where they can:
- spend time with their friends and teachers
- create new and fun experiences
- find their interests
- earn new things
- open up their options – for whatever future they want (whether that’s their dream job or to travel around the world).
Share these positives with your child.
Talk to your child about school
Open up a conversation with your child about what’s happening at school. It will help you to better support their interests and confidence in learning. If you show an interest in school, they’ll know that getting an education is important and valued.
Celebrate the milestones
Big and small! Celebrate milestones such as making it through the first day or week of school. And remember: all milestones look different. If it’s a big achievement for your child, it’s important to recognise it.
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
There is no weakness in admitting you need help. If your child has completely disengaged with school, and not attending at all, there is support to help you. In the first instance, talk to us at school.
Our school learning behaviours
We are:
Safe: We work and play in a way that is safe for all members of the school community
Helpful: We work together to support each other
INclusive: We value the right of everyone to learn and take responsibility to ensure that access to a high-level educational program is accessible to all
Excellent: We aspire to be our very best at all times
Our Values

- Connection- Building positive relationship and a sense of belonging.
- Courage- accepting challenges and embracing opportunities.
- Growth- aspiring to learn, and improving, even when it is tough.
- Respect- Caring for ourselves, each other, and our environment.
- Responsibility Stepping up and doing what is right.
At Waverley, we value respect and our SHINE expectations. Swearing is not acceptable at school. We expect all students to use kind and respectful language.
Please support this message at home. If your child hears inappropriate language, encourage them to tell a staff member so we can address it.
Together, we can keep Waverley a welcoming and respectful community.
Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Katie Wightman

Aussie of the Month
Lincoln is a bright and bubbly student whose enthusiasm and energy rubs off on the people around him. He greets everyone with a smile and friendly hello. As he is now in the upper primary years here at Waverley, Lincoln has taken on roles and responsibilities around our school which ensure everyone is safe and our school is a great place to be. Lincoln displays our Shine values, and we are proud of the tremendous progress he has made in all aspects of school life.

GRIP Leadership Conference
On Thursday, 13th March, our Year 6 Leaders attended the GRIP Leadership Conference at the Tailrace Centre. The conference focused on developing leadership skills and exploring how young leaders can positively contribute to their school communities.
The day began with interactive activities designed to help us understand the responsibilities of a school leader. After recess, we explored two key topics: Leadership through Friendship and New Ideas to Help Others. In the first session, we learned about different friendship tools and saw examples of these in action through movie clips. The second session showcased inspiring initiatives from other schools, including a school that organises community lunches twice a year, where student leaders take on roles such as cooking, serving, and sharing meals with guests.
Later in the day, we discovered how to break down ideas into manageable stages, helping us turn big goals into achievable steps. This approach reinforced the importance of planning and taking action progressively rather than leaving everything until the last minute.
A highlight of the conference was the Loud Noises sessions between workshops. These lively, fun-filled breaks gave us the chance to connect with students from other schools and share a few laughs.
The GRIP Leadership Conference provided us with valuable insights and practical strategies to become better leaders. We are excited to put our learning into practice and make a positive impact in our school community this year.
Miss Laura Harrison
Year 6 Leadership Co-ordinator.

Kindergarten Self Portraits
Painting self-portraits in kindergarten fosters creativity, self-awareness and confidence. It supports Early Years Learning Framework outcomes by strengthening identity (outcome 1). Promoting belonging (outcome 2). Enhancing well-being (outcome 3). Encouraging problem solving (outcome 4) and developing communication (outcome 5). This activity nurtures self-expression, social connections, and early learning in a meaningful way.

From the Nurse's Desk

My name is Louise (Nurse Lou) and I am the School Health Nurse at Waverley Primary School. I look forward to working with the school community, and meeting the students and their families.
This term I will mainly be focusing on Kindergarten Health Checks, and have also had the privilege of visiting the K-2 classrooms discussing the topic of Oral Health. We spoke about how much our teeth love fruit and vegetables, watched a video about visiting the dentist and practiced brushing on our giant set of teeth!
